Introduction to Phone Numbers
Overview
Commonly referred to as Tracking Numbers, you can purchases local phone numbers, 8** (toll-free) numbers and vanity numbers (877-QIVIRDM) on the QIVIR platform.
Which type of number you purchase typically depends on its intended use case. For local marketing initiatives and campaigns where a lead or customer is going to respond more favorably to a local number in their area code - then local numbers are better and less expensive approach. For national initiatives and campaigns, an 8** style number is typically the best route to go, especially if there is a vanity style number available that will help leads and customers recognize your brand.
Tracking Numbers
While all phone numbers purchased in the QIVIR portal can be tracked and reported on, phone numbers are typically purchased for one of two reasons; to be used in marketing materials for specific campaigns as tracking numbers, or to point to an IVR solution for the company or a location. You could use it for both as you could develop an informational IVR menu for your company or location, then use that phone number on marketing material that you want to track. Phone numbers, aka tracking numbers, can be used in a wide variety of ways in the QIVIR portal - and even combined with our QR code tracking features.
Entry Point for Callers
A phone number is an entry point for your callers and it's configuration defines a portion of what the caller hears. After acquiring a phone number, you need to modify its properties to customize it for your purposes. This includes defining which language and voice it answers with, in addition to the call flow your callers will presented with - such as which menu options they will hear and which features they will have access to.
See the help sections on acquiring and editing phone numbers, and creating and editing call flows.
Company vs. Location Phone Numbers
The QIVIR platform is segmented in two fundamental areas in which resources can belong to within an Account. For national marketing initiatives specific the brand overall that are not specific to a location, we recommend that these resource live at the top Company level. For marketing initiatives specific to a project or a location, we recommend the resource live at the specific location.
For example, if you are producing marketing material not specific to a location such as your national consumer website or national magazine publication - that phone number should be purchased at the company level. Marketing material developed for a single location in Grand Rapids, MI should have all of the resource belong to the Grand Rapids location.
When the company is selected, you will see a list of phone numbers that are belong to the company:
When the location is selected, you will see phone number that belong to the location, which are zero in the example below.
Shared Resources
While phone numbers can't be shared to locations, certain other resources can be shared from the parent company down to locations such as QR Code Styles, Tracking Domains, Call Flows, Campaigns, Tracking Sources, Tracking Mediums, and Google Analytics Profiles.
To share one of the above resources to all of the Locations, simply edit the resource and check the sharing check box, then save your changes.
